I have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. If I’m being honest, I can count on one hand how many Valentine’s Days I’ve really, truly enjoyed with a significant other. I’m dating myself but do you remember dial-up and that screeching sound as we got connected to AOL to enjoy the beginnings of the connecting with others via chat rooms? I remember being 11 and giving someone my phone number and home address as we planned to meet up in real life to hang out. I was young, innocent and presumed others were too when sharing their own a/s/l but that wasn’t and still isn’t the case. Now that the internet has developed more, so has the need for safety precautions and programs like Be Internet Awesome.
It’s no secret that I’m out here multi-tasking my life in order to achieve greatness. I was 11 when I first got my period. I still remember it to this day. I must have read “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” at least a dozen times in preparation for my big day. I’d read some book that talks about how different cultures celebrate puberty and periods with young girls so when it happened, I knew what it was.
