    Paris In Atlanta

I made mini a peasant-style tunic out of a Paris-inspired cotton that she loved. We paired it with the perfect combination giving her grace and style!

I took mini shopping with me during one of my many fabric excursions and I let her pick out some fabric. This is one of the fabrics that she chose–a Paris themed fabric. As she touched the soft cotton on the bolt, I saw so much of me in her. You can tell that she really appreciates the beauty of the fabric. While she stood there playing with the fabric I asked her what she thought she would want made out of this. “A shirt Mommy. I think a shirt would be so nice.” In my head she meant like a regular t-shirt but this isn’t a stretch cotton for that kind of style. Mini is a beautiful combination of tom-boy and girly girl so I wanted to make her something that would allow her to just be her. When I finished this peasant-style tunic for her she was so excited! Pairing it with some white jeans (which will probably NOT stay white ha!) and sandals makes for a perfect summer outfit.

I married the greatest husband in the world who also happens to be one of the best father's in the world. He'll be getting a gift from this guide!

Growing up, I had the greatest dad. In the moment, I don’t know if I appreciated him the way that I do now that I see the things I love so much about how he fathered me in how my husband loves our kids. I wouldn’t say that when I started dating after mini I was looking for a good dad but I would be remiss if I said that this wasn’t a requirement. I found the most amazing friend, husband, and father in him.

I married the greatest husband in the world who also happens to be one of the best father's in the world. He'll be getting a gift from this guide!

    Celebrating Father’s Every Day

I try not to wait until Father’s Day to show my husband how much I appreciate him being a great dad. He’s truly wonderful. He’s this amazingly compassionate and patient man. His girls love him and this is evident everyday with the squeals and screams of delight as he comes through the door. My husband has made it possible for me to chase my dreams while providing for our girls day in and day out.

He does more than the average husband–he cleans daily without nagging, comes in and immediately gives attention to the girls before putting them to bed and gets them dressed in the morning. He does these things happily and with joy in his heart which is why he deserves the world and more.

    Stranded in South Carolina

After catching a flat tire on a Sunday evening in South Carolina, my husband and I were stranded. But our stay there turned out to be quite pleasant.

    Thump… fwap… fwap… fwap… fwap…

This is how it sounded when our tire busted as we were on the road to Atlanta from South Carolina. The hubs looked at me and asked, “Is that our car?” I almost rolled my eyes because I knew that he knew it was our car so he didn’t really need confirmation. “Yep. That would be a flat tire.” It was Sunday at 5:15pm and we were driving through rural South Carolina. What were the chances that we would find a tire shop today.

    None.

None was the answer. The hubs changed into the spare tire in 5 minutes flat. I’m blessed–I married a man that knows how to work with his hands. In my eyes, there’s nothing that he can’t fix–even if it’s with the help of YouTube University. We hopped back on the road and I called every tire shop within a 20 mile radius and got 1 answer from Sam’s Club. Apparently we talked to the wrong people because as we pulled up at exactly closing time, they informed us they couldn’t help us.

    Stranded in South Carolina

While the people at Sam’s Club tried to help us find an open tire shop, I realized it was futile. It was Sunday and all places that might have been opened where now closed. I felt bad–the hubs was supposed to have his long awaited review on Monday at work and we wouldn’t be able to make it back in time. Sure, there was work I would be missing too but not like his–I’m a writer and social media manager so if there’s internet, I can work.

Defeated, we hopped back in the car and searched for local hotels. All I can say is that I’m so happy that this didn’t happen in April when we were broker than some jokers. We aren’t balling out of control but we could afford a modestly priced overnight hotel stay. We called one hotel and tried not to act surprised over the phone. Calling around wasn’t going to work for us so we did the next best thing–www.tripadvisor.com.

    TripAdvisor.com

I didn’t really want to book a hotel through one of the websites that you have to sign up for. I was on a phone and didn’t have the patience for all that. But TripAdvisor.com really made it easy. I searched the are we were in, sorted by price and checked out the ratings. We decided on The Sleep Inn and booked with ease through Booking.com. It took maybe 5min in total, which was a relief and we weren’t breaking bank to get a last minute room.

After catching a flat tire on a Sunday evening in South Carolina, my husband and I were stranded. But our stay there turned out to be quite pleasant.

    Sleep Inn Saved My Sanity

I’m not going to lie, I was slightly frazzled when the tire situation happened and not because I thought our safety was jeopardized. In fact, it wasn’t until I talked to my mom that I realized that we could have been seriously injured. Now, I wouldn’t say I’m a control freak but I will say that I like to have a plan and being stranded in South Carolina was NOT in the plan. But Sleep Inn was a good price, rated well, and when we checked in, it was easy to see that the ratings didn’t lie.

Check in was easy and took 2 minutes literally. The woman who checked us in pronounced my name correctly and gave us directions on how to get to our room fastest. We got there and I was more than pleasantly surprised by our room. It had a nice, king-size bed with a flat screen TV that had cable. The WiFi was free and worked really well due to the signal boosters placed throughout the hallways. Our shower was pretty awesome and was huge.

Instead of being frazzled and worried, I was able to relax and really enjoy the first night being child-free for a bit with my husband. There was no shrieks of “mommy”, no fighting, no mess. There was only peace, quiet, and the love of my life. We ate in and enjoyed watching Game of Thrones in real time. We slept moderately late and then had a hot breakfast. This was one of the defining factors for me in choosing where we would stay–breakfast. Since I knew I wouldn’t be starting my DTOX program today, I knew I wanted something free and moderately delicious. I was able to make some banana waffles and have a yogurt along with some juice and coffee. Works for me!

Recipe For Weight-Loss Success with Life Time

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it. #getfitwithtcm #recipeforsuccess #banthefluff #hotmombod #lifetimewithtcm #summerbodygameon

“I have some clothes that are too big for me if you want them.” This statement meant to help ends up hurting so much. It’s the recognition by another that I’ve gained so much weight that I don’t fit my own anymore and I’m still battling with weight-loss. It means that it’s not just me who notices that my waistline has expanded, my thighs are bulging and my body just doesn’t fit me anymore. Before I continue I will say this: this is not fat shaming. This is not about telling myself or others that I’m not beautiful, good enough, etc because I’m fluffy. This isn’t that at all. But this is me wanting to feel better health wise.

My “baby” will be two this August and I haven’t lost any of this “baby weight”. In fact, it’s not really baby weight at all–I didn’t gain while pregnant and after I gave birth, I was between 5-10lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight. But my terrible eating habits I justified with breastfeeding caught up to me in a major way once I weaned her. Since giving birth, I’ve gained a total of almost 50lbs. FIFTY POUNDS! I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

When I think about this weight that I’ve gained, I’m literally overcome with emotion and feelings of helplessness. I have tried to change my eating habits, exercise consistently, get my 10k steps but it’s just not enough and I’ve finally realized that I just can’t do it alone anymore. I’m lucking because my health hasn’t been affected–yet. Whenever people ask about my medical conditions they’re always surprised to find out that I don’t have high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. and I’m tired of the surprise.

When I had mini, I dropped 60lbs pretty easily and became a runner by the time she turned 2. I did it by myself. I had no trainer. No nutritionist. What I did have was depression from my situation at the time and I needed an outlet since drowning myself with wine wasn’t a viable option as a mom to a young child. So I ran. I sweat the tears out. But now? Now I’m happy. Stressed but quite happy. And with that, I’ve realized that I can’t do it alone. I need help which is why I’ve teamed up with my health club Life Time Fitness for the 60-day Challenge.

    Recipe for Success

Creating and following recipes is something that I’m pretty good at. Recipes are a plan of action to create something good and often delicious. Now I’m not sure if I’ll be describing myself as delicious by the end of this challenge but I will be calling myself good that’s for sure! But success takes a plan. I’ve been “winging” it long enough and am now ready to plan for the success that I want.

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it.

    Life Time Fitness

I’ve been a member of this health club for just over a year. I went there just to take mini swimming with a friend of hers and naturally I had to do a tour. Except they didn’t make me. I told the membership manager that I wasn’t going to sign up for this health club and gave him a long list of reasons why. He sat and listened until I was finished and then he spoke. But then he said something along the lines of “We aren’t like other gyms but when you’re ready to make a difference in your life, just come back and see me.” By the end of the conversation, I was signing here, here, and here before taking a picture for my new membership card. I was sold and a year later, I still am. Life Time Fitness is NOT a gym. Life Time Fitness is a health club that is dedicated to helping it’s members achieve a healthy lifestyle. Not just adults, kids too. And they’re family oriented. So I don’t ever feel bad leaving mini or abc in the childcare as I take 2 hours of much needed mommy time to get myself in tip top shape.

    60-Day Challenge

Did you know that people who lose weight in a group are more likely to achieve their weight loss goals than those trying to achieve their goals by themselves? On June 17th, the challenge begins and I’ll be 1 among thousands of people looking to lose weight and increase their health. Oh, and did I mention that there’s a prize? Yeah, mama is trying to get that trip!

    D.TOXSM Program

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it.

I’m a huge fan of detoxifying your body and can tell when it’s time. Right now, I’m dealing with my skin breaking out, feeling sluggish and like no sleep is enough. It’s time to detox! Life Time is committed to whole body health–not just losing weight–so they have a detox program called D.TOXSM.

D.TOXSM is a detoxification program designed to support your body’s natural detoxification system by following a restricted nutritional plan that eliminates common food allergens and hormones, taking certain nutritional supplements and observing lifestyle recommendations. Responses to the D.TOX program and elimination of potential toxins will vary based on individual characteristics.

Please note that this is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

    Life Time Multi Performance Complex

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it.

Vitamins play a huge role in your body’s performance, healing and overall health. This set of vitamins have both morning and evening formula’s. The morning is formulated to give daytime energy (yessssss!!! I need this!!!) and the evening formula is designed for nighttime recovery. But they both enhance exercise, recovery and your immune system.

    Life Time Trainer

Like I said before, the last time I lost weight, I did it without a trainer. Now this isn’t because I don’t believe in the work they do but I was at a tough time and fighting sadness was enough motivation for me. Now? I get so distracted with everything that I have going on that my workouts aren’t nearly as efficient. I’ll be training with one of the incredible trainers that Life Time has!

    Life Time Nutritionist

Fact: You can’t out train a bad diet. And after two kids my body has changed so much that I don’t know what is good for MY body specifically. I’ve learned that the more I eat, the better my body performs and I get stronger and weigh less. I’ll be working with a nutritionist to determine what foods I should be eating for optimal health.

    Assessment Testing

I’m not stranger to working out. In fact, I LOVE working out. But this is the heaviest I’ve been and there’s a lot that I have to learn about working out in THIS body. Life Time has a series of assessments that they use to help you work smarter towards your goals, not harder.

So this is it. This is my recipe for weight-loss success. I’m tired of being fluffy. I’m tired of being tired. I’m tired of not getting the results that I’m so desperately working to achieve. I’m tired of what I’m doing not working. And I’m ready to share my success story.

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it.

Do you have a weight-loss story? How did you transform?

No-New June: A Month of Nothing New

After sopping up all the lessons that a tumultuous April left me, we're ready to kick off June without buying new things. Check out why, what, and how!

If you follow me on social media or subscribe to my newsletter (which you totally should!!!) then you’ve heard me express a couple of times that April was the hardest month EVER!!! When May arrived, we had gotten our tax return which gave us some breathing space, I signed some new clients, and we were splashing in the proverbial puddles that the April showers left as we danced in the May sunshine. But it’s June and what’s the point in going through things if not to learn some lessons and APPLY said learned lessons. So this is what we’re doing for June–applying those lessons from April.

    April Showers

I swear that I’ve been over here living the life of metaphors and alliterations. Sure, weather wise, it typically rains more in April. The last of the frost was March 23rd and all seeds should have been deposited in the ground so these April showers can give them the nutrients to prepare them to grow. This was my life. March wasn’t terrible BUT I did do some planting of the seeds. I knew where I wanted to take TCM, I planned my re-design of the site and had started working on it. But man, when it rains, it pours.

With April arrived a shower that I was unprepared for and my umbrella must’ve been kicking it with Rihanna because it was no where to be found. My family’s health, our finances, my “keeping it together”-ness seemed to be washed away with the rain. We survived. I don’t know if we thrived but we definitely have made it through unscathed. We even somehow managed to make it to Orlando and back for a 4-day trip on just about $25 spent–which included a virtual trip to the doctor for me–for mini’s Spring Break. But there were some really great lessons I learned once I was done crying and having a pity party.

    May Flowers

As my tears dried and the storm clouds faded, I was really able to see all the blessings that I got from this time. Lessons upon lesson upon lessons shone brighter than the rays of sun. I could write a book on what I learned, and I might, but here are some of the top shareable lessons:

    1. My village is unmatchable: I have probably received more words, hugs, messages of encouragement than ever. Anything I needed, it was provided from trying to brainstorm how this entreprenuership thing is going to work to clients to just “here, I know you need it”. But more importantly is the lesson in creating a village. They don’t just pop up because one day you need them. Just like in building a house, you need to create a strong foundation through vulnerability and more. You have to know when to give and when to receive. And this may take time but it’s always worth it.
    2. Ask for what you need: It’s so hard for us to let go of that ego and say “I need help”. When you do, I promise that your life will be so much easier and more full of happiness. People will rarely “just know” what it is that you need unless you ask.
    3. Cry. A lot.: Again, that ego will prevent us from letting go of what we need to. Sometimes it’s actually crying that we need or it’s metaphorically speaking. But release and do so happily.
    4. Love yourself even though you’re in process: So often we treat ourselves badly because we don’t think we’re thin enough, make enough money, pretty enough, perfect enough. Cut it out! We are beautiful works that are in process. We don’t lose beauty simply because we are still being formed and growing. Treat yourself!
    5. Celebrate the small wins: Everyone has said this to me but it wasn’t until I actually started doing this that it made sense. Find something to celebrate daily.
    6. Give yourself permission to be happy: This is in line with #4. IT’S OK TO BE HAPPY IN THE MIDST OF YOUR GROWTH!!!!

Trust that there were more “flowers” that popped up in the month of May but these I feel like need to be shared now.

After sopping up all the lessons that a tumultuous April left me, we're ready to kick off June without buying new things. Check out why, what, and how!

    No-New June

So how does this get us to no-new June? One of the things that I’ve learned about myself is I like to spend money. This is a big stress-reliever for me but it’s also a pain point. I love having a savings and our goal is build back up what we once had. I’m an extremist when it comes to money–I either hoard it or spend it all. I want to focus on the hoarding–tis the season of hoarding!

What I’m Not Spending Money On

Who can live without spending money on new things?? We have bills and need food and stuff right? So yes, there will be spending on SOME new things. But here are the things I won’t be spending money on:

    • New shoes/clothes for adults
    • New fabric
    • New pens
    • New things that we don’t NEED

What I AM Spending Money On

    • Bills/Utilities
    • Sewing Notions needed for projects
    • Groceries/Food
    • Shoes for Kids

    Goals

I want to have more money in savings and detach the emotions with spending and stress. I need to have a healthier outlet for my stress instead of buying things.

Stay tuned for my update at the end of the month on how I did!

Have you ever done a “no-spend” or “no-new” month/year? How did it work out for you?
