Recipe For Weight-Loss Success with Life Time

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it. #getfitwithtcm #recipeforsuccess #banthefluff #hotmombod #lifetimewithtcm #summerbodygameon

“I have some clothes that are too big for me if you want them.” This statement meant to help ends up hurting so much. It’s the recognition by another that I’ve gained so much weight that I don’t fit my own anymore and I’m still battling with weight-loss. It means that it’s not just me who notices that my waistline has expanded, my thighs are bulging and my body just doesn’t fit me anymore. Before I continue I will say this: this is not fat shaming. This is not about telling myself or others that I’m not beautiful, good enough, etc because I’m fluffy. This isn’t that at all. But this is me wanting to feel better health wise.

My “baby” will be two this August and I haven’t lost any of this “baby weight”. In fact, it’s not really baby weight at all–I didn’t gain while pregnant and after I gave birth, I was between 5-10lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight. But my terrible eating habits I justified with breastfeeding caught up to me in a major way once I weaned her. Since giving birth, I’ve gained a total of almost 50lbs. FIFTY POUNDS! I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

When I think about this weight that I’ve gained, I’m literally overcome with emotion and feelings of helplessness. I have tried to change my eating habits, exercise consistently, get my 10k steps but it’s just not enough and I’ve finally realized that I just can’t do it alone anymore. I’m lucking because my health hasn’t been affected–yet. Whenever people ask about my medical conditions they’re always surprised to find out that I don’t have high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. and I’m tired of the surprise.

When I had mini, I dropped 60lbs pretty easily and became a runner by the time she turned 2. I did it by myself. I had no trainer. No nutritionist. What I did have was depression from my situation at the time and I needed an outlet since drowning myself with wine wasn’t a viable option as a mom to a young child. So I ran. I sweat the tears out. But now? Now I’m happy. Stressed but quite happy. And with that, I’ve realized that I can’t do it alone. I need help which is why I’ve teamed up with my health club Life Time Fitness for the 60-day Challenge.

    Recipe for Success

Creating and following recipes is something that I’m pretty good at. Recipes are a plan of action to create something good and often delicious. Now I’m not sure if I’ll be describing myself as delicious by the end of this challenge but I will be calling myself good that’s for sure! But success takes a plan. I’ve been “winging” it long enough and am now ready to plan for the success that I want.

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it.

    Life Time Fitness

I’ve been a member of this health club for just over a year. I went there just to take mini swimming with a friend of hers and naturally I had to do a tour. Except they didn’t make me. I told the membership manager that I wasn’t going to sign up for this health club and gave him a long list of reasons why. He sat and listened until I was finished and then he spoke. But then he said something along the lines of “We aren’t like other gyms but when you’re ready to make a difference in your life, just come back and see me.” By the end of the conversation, I was signing here, here, and here before taking a picture for my new membership card. I was sold and a year later, I still am. Life Time Fitness is NOT a gym. Life Time Fitness is a health club that is dedicated to helping it’s members achieve a healthy lifestyle. Not just adults, kids too. And they’re family oriented. So I don’t ever feel bad leaving mini or abc in the childcare as I take 2 hours of much needed mommy time to get myself in tip top shape.

    60-Day Challenge

Did you know that people who lose weight in a group are more likely to achieve their weight loss goals than those trying to achieve their goals by themselves? On June 17th, the challenge begins and I’ll be 1 among thousands of people looking to lose weight and increase their health. Oh, and did I mention that there’s a prize? Yeah, mama is trying to get that trip!

    D.TOXSM Program

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it.

I’m a huge fan of detoxifying your body and can tell when it’s time. Right now, I’m dealing with my skin breaking out, feeling sluggish and like no sleep is enough. It’s time to detox! Life Time is committed to whole body health–not just losing weight–so they have a detox program called D.TOXSM.

D.TOXSM is a detoxification program designed to support your body’s natural detoxification system by following a restricted nutritional plan that eliminates common food allergens and hormones, taking certain nutritional supplements and observing lifestyle recommendations. Responses to the D.TOX program and elimination of potential toxins will vary based on individual characteristics.

Please note that this is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

    Life Time Multi Performance Complex

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it.

Vitamins play a huge role in your body’s performance, healing and overall health. This set of vitamins have both morning and evening formula’s. The morning is formulated to give daytime energy (yessssss!!! I need this!!!) and the evening formula is designed for nighttime recovery. But they both enhance exercise, recovery and your immune system.

    Life Time Trainer

Like I said before, the last time I lost weight, I did it without a trainer. Now this isn’t because I don’t believe in the work they do but I was at a tough time and fighting sadness was enough motivation for me. Now? I get so distracted with everything that I have going on that my workouts aren’t nearly as efficient. I’ll be training with one of the incredible trainers that Life Time has!

    Life Time Nutritionist

Fact: You can’t out train a bad diet. And after two kids my body has changed so much that I don’t know what is good for MY body specifically. I’ve learned that the more I eat, the better my body performs and I get stronger and weigh less. I’ll be working with a nutritionist to determine what foods I should be eating for optimal health.

    Assessment Testing

I’m not stranger to working out. In fact, I LOVE working out. But this is the heaviest I’ve been and there’s a lot that I have to learn about working out in THIS body. Life Time has a series of assessments that they use to help you work smarter towards your goals, not harder.

So this is it. This is my recipe for weight-loss success. I’m tired of being fluffy. I’m tired of being tired. I’m tired of not getting the results that I’m so desperately working to achieve. I’m tired of what I’m doing not working. And I’m ready to share my success story.

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I could remember but I've finally got a recipe for weight-loss success and this is it.

Do you have a weight-loss story? How did you transform?

No-New June: A Month of Nothing New

After sopping up all the lessons that a tumultuous April left me, we're ready to kick off June without buying new things. Check out why, what, and how!

If you follow me on social media or subscribe to my newsletter (which you totally should!!!) then you’ve heard me express a couple of times that April was the hardest month EVER!!! When May arrived, we had gotten our tax return which gave us some breathing space, I signed some new clients, and we were splashing in the proverbial puddles that the April showers left as we danced in the May sunshine. But it’s June and what’s the point in going through things if not to learn some lessons and APPLY said learned lessons. So this is what we’re doing for June–applying those lessons from April.

    April Showers

I swear that I’ve been over here living the life of metaphors and alliterations. Sure, weather wise, it typically rains more in April. The last of the frost was March 23rd and all seeds should have been deposited in the ground so these April showers can give them the nutrients to prepare them to grow. This was my life. March wasn’t terrible BUT I did do some planting of the seeds. I knew where I wanted to take TCM, I planned my re-design of the site and had started working on it. But man, when it rains, it pours.

With April arrived a shower that I was unprepared for and my umbrella must’ve been kicking it with Rihanna because it was no where to be found. My family’s health, our finances, my “keeping it together”-ness seemed to be washed away with the rain. We survived. I don’t know if we thrived but we definitely have made it through unscathed. We even somehow managed to make it to Orlando and back for a 4-day trip on just about $25 spent–which included a virtual trip to the doctor for me–for mini’s Spring Break. But there were some really great lessons I learned once I was done crying and having a pity party.

    May Flowers

As my tears dried and the storm clouds faded, I was really able to see all the blessings that I got from this time. Lessons upon lesson upon lessons shone brighter than the rays of sun. I could write a book on what I learned, and I might, but here are some of the top shareable lessons:

    1. My village is unmatchable: I have probably received more words, hugs, messages of encouragement than ever. Anything I needed, it was provided from trying to brainstorm how this entreprenuership thing is going to work to clients to just “here, I know you need it”. But more importantly is the lesson in creating a village. They don’t just pop up because one day you need them. Just like in building a house, you need to create a strong foundation through vulnerability and more. You have to know when to give and when to receive. And this may take time but it’s always worth it.
    2. Ask for what you need: It’s so hard for us to let go of that ego and say “I need help”. When you do, I promise that your life will be so much easier and more full of happiness. People will rarely “just know” what it is that you need unless you ask.
    3. Cry. A lot.: Again, that ego will prevent us from letting go of what we need to. Sometimes it’s actually crying that we need or it’s metaphorically speaking. But release and do so happily.
    4. Love yourself even though you’re in process: So often we treat ourselves badly because we don’t think we’re thin enough, make enough money, pretty enough, perfect enough. Cut it out! We are beautiful works that are in process. We don’t lose beauty simply because we are still being formed and growing. Treat yourself!
    5. Celebrate the small wins: Everyone has said this to me but it wasn’t until I actually started doing this that it made sense. Find something to celebrate daily.
    6. Give yourself permission to be happy: This is in line with #4. IT’S OK TO BE HAPPY IN THE MIDST OF YOUR GROWTH!!!!

Trust that there were more “flowers” that popped up in the month of May but these I feel like need to be shared now.

After sopping up all the lessons that a tumultuous April left me, we're ready to kick off June without buying new things. Check out why, what, and how!

    No-New June

So how does this get us to no-new June? One of the things that I’ve learned about myself is I like to spend money. This is a big stress-reliever for me but it’s also a pain point. I love having a savings and our goal is build back up what we once had. I’m an extremist when it comes to money–I either hoard it or spend it all. I want to focus on the hoarding–tis the season of hoarding!

What I’m Not Spending Money On

Who can live without spending money on new things?? We have bills and need food and stuff right? So yes, there will be spending on SOME new things. But here are the things I won’t be spending money on:

    • New shoes/clothes for adults
    • New fabric
    • New pens
    • New things that we don’t NEED

What I AM Spending Money On

    • Bills/Utilities
    • Sewing Notions needed for projects
    • Groceries/Food
    • Shoes for Kids

    Goals

I want to have more money in savings and detach the emotions with spending and stress. I need to have a healthier outlet for my stress instead of buying things.

Stay tuned for my update at the end of the month on how I did!

Have you ever done a “no-spend” or “no-new” month/year? How did it work out for you?

Mommy + Me Off the Shoulder “Denim” Dress

Summer time is the perfect time to rock a dress! I made these matching dresses for the girls and I just in time to wear for the warm weather.

Summer time is here and we’re ready to celebrate with flowy dresses! One of my favorite things about being able to sew is the ability to make matching outfits. Mini and abc have on their super cute peasant dresses that that match my mommy version of it. Off the shoulder is one of my FAVORITE styles. I always feel so sexy and feminine in them. This dress is so easy to wear and the mini length makes it not look as homely as it could.

    We Survived Kindergarten!!!

We survived kindergarten! We were both nervous on the first day but mini truly rocked it out! And we celebrated her year in the best way possible!

I would be lying if I didn’t say that as I picked mini up from school on her last day of school I wasn’t a little teary-eyed. On May 26th, we celebrated a mighty successful year as a kindergartner.

    Mothering A Kindergartner

Where are the books on this?

We survived kindergarten! We were both nervous on the first day but mini truly rocked it out! And we celebrated her year in the best way possible!

    mini and her teacher

I feel like every phase mini hits I’m so unprepared for! It seems like it was just yesterday that I was walking her in for her first day. She sat next to Seth and I was the creeper mom who watched from the hallway as they colored and made awkward conversation. And now she’s heading to first grade. As in grade 1. As in she’s officially in grade school.

This year has been incredible. Not working in corporate America made it so I was present for class parties, school awards, art shows and more. It was lots of fun but there was so much I didn’t know to expect.

    Parent/Teacher Communication

Mini’s teacher was pretty awesome. If there were ever any issues, I knew I would get an email and I welcomed that. But there were emails, newsletters, and other random communications sent home. In the beginning of the year I was on it. I kept all of these papers somewhere safe (where that is now, I have no idea). But towards the end? I was struggling man. My suggestion is to set up a station for all this. I ran to Target and grabbed some pretty folders in their $1 section to create a central location for all these papers. There were some that were just “FYI”, things that needed to be returned, and her artwork. Don’t get overwhelmed like I did–organize and then dominate!

    Parent/Teacher Meetings

Mini’s teacher kept asking me if what she was saying sounded right as I sat there with a blank expression on my face while she reviewed everything. I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to say since this was all pretty new to me and based upon everything the teacher was saying, mini was excelling in everything but her behavior. Pro Tip: Be prepared with a question or two about how to continue what they’re learning in school at home to support what the teacher is doing. This makes you look like you know what you’re doing with this parenting thing way better than the blank stare.

    Lunch

I know, this seems obvious. Either have lunches prepared or buy lunch. What I didn’t anticipate was the effect of school lunches on mini’s body. After having her lunches prepared with love for the past 4-5 years, school lunch had a pretty bad effect on her stomach (I even had a dream I was talking to Michelle Obama about how terrible this was). She dealt with constipation as a result and that’s not fun AT ALL. Preparing lunches daily can seem a pretty daunting task but it’s worth it to know that what you’re putting in their bodies is truly fueling them for their days. Pro Tip: If you pre-package a weeks worth of healthy snacks it makes packing lunch way easier since you’re only worried about the main meal.

    Fighting/Bullying

Yep. This is the age that you truly have to be aware of what’s going on. On mini’s second week of school there was an incident on the playground. Mini knows how to defend herself so I wasn’t too concerned but some kids just don’t know their boundaries. And now that they’re riding the school bus, they’re with older, meaner kids that will more than likely pick on them–as will their classmates. Pro Tip: Don’t fight their fights for them unless they really need it. Teach them how to handle it and make sure they know you have their back.

    We Made It Through Kindergarten!!!!

We survived kindergarten! We were both nervous on the first day but mini truly rocked it out! And we celebrated her year in the best way possible!

Despite mommy’s lack of preparation and the much needed learning curve, we made it. And what better way to celebrate the last day then with a trip to Six Flags!!!! On mini’s last day of school, I picked her up early and we battled through Atlanta traffic to get to the place where a great time was guaranteed. I surprised her by meeting up with our best sisterfriends TiTi and Little A.

World’s First DC SUPER FRIENDS Family Area w/ 5 Attractions Opens at Six Flags

And we were there to test drive the awesomeness of these rides. We are HUGE DC Comic fans so when I found out this was opening up, I knew that I had to take her. It’s located right next to Tiny Town and is perfect for kids that are big enough to want to have some fun at an amusement park but not tall enough for some of the bigger rides–so it was perfect for mini.

    The Joker Funhouse Coaster

This was the first ride we went on (the only one we adults did) and it was super fun! Even as an adult (who may or may not suffer from some mild fear of heights) my stomach did some flopping around. There were lots of screams and fun on this ride! This one was definitely a favorite.

They did this one about 3-4 times because they loved it so much. I think that the drop in your stomach gets addictive!!!

    The BatCopters

This one was ok. I think that the girls were a little too big for this or maybe we should have started out with it. After the Tower of Power and the Joker Coaster this one didn’t have that exciting element for them.

I still can’t believe that I now have an official FIRST GRADER!!!! Time is flying by with these kids but I’m really happy that we were able to make her last day of kindergarten one to remember with the help of Six Flags Over Georgia.

Creating Comfort Daily with TAZO® Tea

“This post was sponsored by Starbucks as part of an Influencer Activation. I received compensation and complimentary products to facilitate my review.”

Sipping the comfort of the sweet and spicy deliciousness that is Chai tea has been made easy by TAZO® with the Chai Latte K-Cup® pods.

It’s 10:45pm and I’ve just fallen asleep after running on about 10 hours of sleep within 3 days. Happy to finally be in the bed at a decent hour, I slowly drift off to sleep only to be awakened 10 minutes later by a screaming abc. Disoriented is an understatement for that moment. Abc walked into my room screaming and I felt like I was being tortured. I was reaching my arms out for her to come to me and she was standing there screaming for me to come to her. It was a standoff. Neither of us won since Daddy swooped in and saved us both. Well, almost both.

I’m one of those sleepers that sleeps hard until they’re woken up and then I can’t go back to sleep which is why I’m so dependent on my morning cup of caffeine. I’m the perfect blend of my parents’ vices of coffee and tea–I have a love affair with them both. I love the comfort that a warm cup of either coffee or tea provides first thing in the morning. As does my husband. In fact, when we first started dating, I would bring him cups of his favorite chai tea to work.

Now that I work from home and he works in the office, I make him at home tea instead.

Sharing Comfort with TAZO® Chai Latte

TAZO® Chai Latte K-Cup® pods makes it easy and convenient for us to continue to experience these moments of comfort together. We have a single serve Keurig®–it makes it way easier to regulate how much caffeine I consume–that gives us everything we need. Parenting is a tough job but it’s easier when parents function as a unit. We use the time that it takes for us to make our cups of tea to go over the current day, highlight any “Reminders” and just connect with each other. After marriage, so many people forget to do the things that they did to get them married. Sharing smiles and giggles over cups of tea has always been something that keeps us connected.

When the hubs and I first started dating, I found out his favorite tea was Chai and I would bring him cups. Now that I work from home, we still catch up over tea. #ChaiLatte #KCup #IC #ad

Sweet & Spicy: The Perfect Blend

The TAZO® Chai Latte K-Cup® pods has made it so easy to bring the coffeehouse home and really gets the flavor balance right–down to the froth on the top. When the scent of the tea hits you, it’s perfection. There are bold notes of cardamom sweetened by the likes of sugar and milk that leave you feeling balanced, ready to tackle your day. The mixture of the sweet and spicy flavors is almost representative of he and I in our marriage. I won’t lie and say I’m the sweet since I’m definitely the spicy but like the TAZO® Chai Latte, we’re the perfect blend.

    New to Chai?

Chai tea is a black tea that is a balance of sweet and spicy flavors that has a deep rooted history in India. It’s made with the following delicious flavors:

    • Sweet Cinnamon
    • Fragrant Cardamom
    • Spicy Ginger
    • Black Tea

When making the tea, it’s mixed with milk and sugar to give it the sweet creaminess that balances the spicy.

TAZO has partnered with Padma Lakshmi, New York Times Best Seller and host, to introduce the new TAZO® Chai Latte K-Cup® pods which is made from milk, tea leaves and spices. Padma teaming up on this project was natural since both tea and chai have been part of her life and family heritage. She’s even come up with perfect recipe pairings–these Cinnamon Cookies are right up my alley!
