Quality Mommy & Me Time With American Girl®

Big thanks to American Girl® for partnering together for this post!

Becoming a mom of three has been the most insane roller coaster that I could have ever imagined. We have these amazing days where I feel like the most awesome mom and there’s days where I feel like I’ve failed everyone. One of the things that I’m really working hard on has making sure that my girls get quality mommy & me time. I don’t want them feeling replaced by our new addition and I want them to make sure that they know I value their place in our family.

Getting Mommy & Me Time In

It’s hard. I would be lying if I said that I was doing an excellent job at it. BC is 13 weeks old now and still quite dependent on me. And I’m back to work again which makes things more difficult. But when I put him down for naps, I try and get some one on one time with each of the girls. I’m learning that although self-sufficient, they still really need mommy.

I've always wanted three kids. But I never factored in the mommy & me time with them! It's so important and American Girl® has helped!

One of my favorite dolls growing up was my Addy doll from American Girl®. My dad actually worked on the original advertisement for her. I loved her story and that she looked like me–representation matters. Now that Mini is old enough to respect her things, American Girl® and I gifted her the Gabriela doll–a doll that she was excited looked like her.

I've always wanted three kids. But I never factored in the mommy & me time with them! It's so important and American Girl® has helped!

Incorporating American Girl® Into Our Time

It’s no news here that I’m a seamstress and if you follow me on social media then you know that Mini is a budding seamstress herself so we use this time to hang out. She’s made herself a couple of skirts in the past but this time I thought it would be fun to make Gabriela a dress to match a shirt that I had made her (that also matches one of my dresses). One of my favorite pattern groups Made for Mermaids just came out with the Catherine pattern that I had the pleasure of testing.

I've always wanted three kids. But I never factored in the mommy & me time with them! It's so important and American Girl® has helped!

    Sewing With My Girl

Let me say this, sewing clothes for myself is pretty easy and I though that it would be easy to make tiny clothes–I was wrong! Mini did a great job in cutting out the pattern and then piecing it together. Seeing her in this capacity shows me how much she’s really grown and it’s crazy to me that I have an almost 8 year old. I’m constantly in teacher mode courtesy of homeschooling but when we’re sewing I get the opportunity to be more of her friend.

I've always wanted three kids. But I never factored in the mommy & me time with them! It's so important and American Girl® has helped!

Sewing is something that we both really enjoy and making clothes for Gabriela was pretty fun. I love taking an interest in the things that she enjoys and I can really see a difference in her behavior after we’ve had time together. Though I wish it were more time, our mutual love of American Girl® has made our mommy & me time quite fruitful!

I've always wanted three kids. But I never factored in the mommy & me time with them! It's so important and American Girl® has helped!

Mama’s of multiples, how do you get your mommy & me time in?

    I•CE•NY In Atlanta

We got a little lost heading there because I got so interested in all the other stores around it but after a quick U-Turn we made it. When we got there, they were closed ☹️☹️but the owner was there and he opened just for us. Yes, so that means we got a private showing of Thai rolled ice cream and how it’s made.

Have you experienced Thai Rolled Ice Cream? If you’re in Atlanta you have check out I•CE•NY on Buford Hwy!

How To Make Thai Rolled Ice Cream

Have you experienced Thai Rolled Ice Cream? If you’re in Atlanta you have check out I•CE•NY on Buford Hwy! Without going into too much detail, they make the ice cream right in front of you. You choose your base flavor, add some mix-ins and toppings. Here’s a short video from my Instagram story showing you how it’s done:

    Chatting With The Owner

Because I had the opportunity to have some one on one attention from him, I was able to unofficially interview him. This chain started out in NY by a friend of his and he brought it down to Atlanta. When I asked why he chose this area on Buford Hwy he said he loved this area which is populated by many first generation Asian-Americans. He’s seeking to change the face and impression of the area making it more marketable to the masses. I love his pride in his race and people as well his desire to spread his culture.

Have you experienced Thai Rolled Ice Cream? If you’re in Atlanta you have check out I•CE•NY on Buford Hwy! The girls and I had a great time as we sat chatting with the owner of this location as well as Dan from The Ice Kitchen located in Kennesaw. How To Build A Breast Milk Stash When Baby Is Home

Whether you're a stay-at-home or work-at-home mom, having a breast milk stash is a must. Here's how to build one while baby is home with you.

As I get ready to head to my best friend’s wedding next week, I realized that this is the first time that my freezer isn’t overflowing with a stash of breastmilk. BC is only 12 weeks old but by this point in time I’ve normally been back to work and not had to battle a baby’s belly for time to pump. While my freezer isn’t full of milk, I do have a big of a breast milk stash for when I need some time away.

Wondering how to build your breast milk stash so that you can take some mommy time away from baby? Here’s how.

    Boost Your Supply

    Water

Make sure that you’re getting a minimum of 100oz of water per day as a bare minimum. If you’re working on boosting your supply, you need more than this. More water = more milk.

    Beer

Yesssss!!! Beer helps your milk production! This is one of my favorite things because I’m a huge fan of Blue Moon Beer. Oh, it’s so divine! I’m doing myself a solid WHILE investing in my baby!

    Supplements

There are the pill forms that you can take (Brewers Yeast, Fenugreek, Tumeric), make a delicious treat, or buy snacks that are for milk production. I was given an Oat Mama bar at a recent Ergo Baby event and fell in love. When I was pregnant with abc, I tried a cookie that was meant to help boost your milk supply. When I tell you that it was beyond gross I mean it. I was really hesitant to try the granola bars from Oat Mama but figured they were free so why not.

Listen. These things are chewy bars of deliciousness. After I gobbled down my bar I contacted them to see how I could get more. Not only do they taste delicious but they work. Twenty minutes after eating my bar I had a let down and this was just 30 minutes after nursing BC. Right. Insane. Because I’m a drinker I had to try their Chai Lactation Tea. I use this as the base of my Chai Tea Lattes and feel fancy while boosting my supply!

Whether you're a stay-at-home or work-at-home mom, having a breast milk stash is a must. Here's how to build one while baby is home with you.

    Get to Pumping

Because baby is always with you it may be hard to pump so here are some of the best times:

    In the morning

I know my supply is always overflowing in the mornings. He’s a pretty late sleeper so I get a pump session in between nursing him when I get up and a couple hours later.

    Immediately after they nurse

This will not only give you some great fatty milk but it will help increase your supply because it’ll trick your body into thinking baby needs more milk.

    After they go to bed

I typically will pump about an hour after he goes down and after I’ve had some tea.

Because I’m not pumping to replace many feedings, I just use a manual pump. My favorite manual pump is the Medela Harmony.

I started to travel with a pump as well just for convenience and because I’d heard so many good things about this pump here:

While pumping and building your breast milk stash isn’t easy while baby is home, it’s totally doable and a must so that you can begin to reclaim your time!

Fellow breastfeeding mamas what tips do you have for building your breast milk stash?

    Making Learning Fun With Gigamic

This is a sponsored post. I received compensation to share my real deal thoughts and feelings on Gigamic products. I hope you love them like I do!

I love teaching. I really do. But teaching my own children is a bit of a challenge since they like to clown me and make pretend they don’t understand something. Weekends are spent browsing Pinterest looking for ways to make learning fun. While they offer a lot of great tools, my favorite are the ones I received from Gigamic.

I love teaching and I love making learning fun but sometimes I need some help! Luckily there are great learning games from Gigamic to help me out!

    Making Learning Fun With Gigamic

Up until recently, I’d never even heard of the toy company. Gigamic has some pretty awesome games that are all learning based–but not in the traditional flash card kind of learning. They have all these great games that force kids to think and learn while having fun.

I love teaching and I love making learning fun but sometimes I need some help! Luckily there are great learning games from Gigamic to help me out!

    Fun For All Ages

We were gifted two VERY different games for our very different girls and both of the girls love them.

    Specific

This game is so much fun. I honestly didn’t think it would be as much fun as it was. This game is designed to teach kids about omnivores, herbivores and carnivores across the species. Prior to us playing, Mini wasn’t well-versed on these three categories. My husband kicked our butts at the game the first time we played but Mini keeps getting better and better as well as more familiar with the species.

I love teaching and I love making learning fun but sometimes I need some help! Luckily there are great learning games from Gigamic to help me out!

    Katamino Family

This was the second game we were gifted and I’m not sure who loves this more! It’s for ages 3+ so naturally abc loves it. But more importantly it has different levels and options making it something that all of us can play. This is a strategy game that helps to teach abc about patterns, colors, matching and more. ABC can work on puzzles herself or compete with her sister as well. I love the 3-D building challenge as does my husband.

I love teaching and I love making learning fun but sometimes I need some help! Luckily there are great learning games from Gigamic to help me out!

    Bringing Back Traditional Family Fun

In a super digital age where phones, tablets and tv’s have taken over it’s nice to be able to sit down with age appropriate games that not only teach lessons but old school fun as well! If it weren’t for the Atlanta Women’s Expo I attended I would have missed out on all this fun!

The Art Of Parenting As They Grow Up

Being a kid isn't easy. Parenting as they grow up isn't easy either. The same methods for a baby can't be used for a pre-tween!

I was in here snuggling with BC, who is now 12 weeks old, when Mini came in. She smells the air and makes this silly face while saying “Oh my goodness! It smells sooooo good in here!” And it hits me in the face that in my head she’s still BC’s age but she’s not. She’ll be 8 in a few months excuse me as a I go cry in a corner and I’ve got to see her as such. This parenting as they grow up is, well, a challenge.

Our Babies Won’t Stay Babies Forever

This is something I struggle with often. When I see both Mini and abc, they’re still BC’s size and age. In my head I have 3 babies but that’s not my reality. I have a baby, an almost not toddler, and an almost tween. Laaaaaaawwwwd help me!!!!!

    via GIPHY

They’re all growing up beautifully too. Mini is this wonderfully helpful and well spoken little girl. Right now we’re going through a power struggle as she’s trying to define what it means so to be herself as she gets older. And abc? I know I shouldn’t be flabbergasted that this child speaks in soliloquies like her sister but every time she opens her mouth and Martian doesn’t come out I find myself surprised. Why? I’m not sure lol! She’s the friendliest of them all and doesn’t meet a stranger. If you get talked up by a toddler in it might be her.

Being a kid isn't easy. Parenting as they grow up isn't easy either. The same methods for a baby can't be used for a pre-tween!

Changing My Parenting Styles As They Grow Up

It’s funny, people always look at me with an infant and wonder how I’m sleeping at night. He’s the easy one and we sleep mighty well. I’ve lost more sleep over my parenting as they grow up then any other time–including pregnancy.

I want them to feel loved.

Growing up isn’t easy. I literally just looked at my husband the other night and sighed at how crazy this being an adult thing was. But both the girls are going through some rather tough times right now and although it’s stressing me out, I want them to feel and know they are loved through all the fussing I do.

Being a kid isn't easy. Parenting as they grow up isn't easy either. The same methods for a baby can't be used for a pre-tween!

    They need space.

And I know this. I wouldn’t identify myself as a helicopter parent but I’m not going to give them tooooooooo much space. But they do need more space to figure out who they are in the world and what that looks like on them. ABC is learning her boundaries and that she has choices. Mini is finding out that people are mean but that it doesn’t mean she has to be. While I want to control the outcomes of these learning experiences, I can’t.

Being a kid isn't easy. Parenting as they grow up isn't easy either. The same methods for a baby can't be used for a pre-tween!

They need to be able to know they can come to me.

Whether it’s with a question, for help, a hug or to just be, they will always need to be able to come back to me. This is something I struggle to remember–that they’ll always need me. I’m sometimes scared to release my hold on them fearing that they’ll discover they don’t need me. But even at 34 I still call my mom and dad for help or to have them just listen as I cry on the phone.

I️ still remember one of the first times after having mini that I needed my mom to come. I was a single mom with her and had no one that could watch her after she’d gotten sick on her birthday. I called my mom early afternoon and before midnight she was walking through my bedroom door. And then when I was pregnant with abc I went into early labor and I was on the phone with my mom as I went to the doctors office and then drove myself to the hospital. She was in town in time to pick Mini up from school. Moms are always needed so it’s silly of me to fear mine won’t need me.

Being a kid isn't easy. Parenting as they grow up isn't easy either. The same methods for a baby can't be used for a pre-tween!

They need to know we trust them.

This one is so big. As parents we work so hard to instill these stellar integrity and character in our kids and we need to not only trust that we did a good job but also trust them to make the right decisions. And if they don’t, we need to still be there to help guide them through–not to say I told you so. This is hard.

Again, I wouldn’t identify myself as a helicopter parent but I’m definitely in tune with what’s going on with them. I’m learning how to adjust the style of my parenting as they grow up because I’m committed to raising amazing adults–not children.

Parents! What adjustments have you had to make in parenting as they grow up? Any tips or tricks?

5 Life Hacks Every New Mom Needs

When Mini was born I had to go out and do all the things. Now? It's way easier with these must have services for the new moms.

Being a new mother is hard. You’re tired, in pain, recovering, adjusting, and still expected to cater to everyone. As a third time new mother, there are definitely some things that I’ve learned that make things easier. Thank goodness for these resources as they are definite must have services for new moms!

When Mini was born I had to go out and do all the things. Now? It's way easier with these life hacks for new moms. Check them out and share!

5 Life Hacks For New Moms

    Kroger Clicklist

Listen. When I first found out about this service I acted real bougie-like at the thought of someone else doing my grocery shopping. Now? Every two weeks I see my girl Ayanna as I sit in the Kroger Clicklist parking spot for my groceries to be delivered to my trunk. CVS and some Walmart’s also offer similar services in case Kroger isn’t by you!

    Amazon Prime Now

I used to work for Amazon and was always so jealous of the people who lived in the areas that they delivered to. Now I do and THE DAY we moved in I ordered from Prime Now. Judge me if you want to ha! This service is amazing. When I was pregnant and in too much pain to get to the store for water, they delivered it in a matter of hours. Or even now when I forget something at the store, I can have Amazon deliver it to me.

    Amazon Prime

My husband is constantly remarking on how many boxes we have around the house. I have to remind him who he married lol! Amazon Prime made ordering all our homeschool supplies a breeze and keeps my sewing notions stocked so they’re always ready. My favorite thing? We never run out of toilet paper (or kids vitamins) because they’re on auto ship. This is literally the best because I ALWAYS forget toilet paper and paper towels when I’m at the store.

    Uber Eats

I know, some days we’re boycotting Uber and some days we aren’t. But when I tell you I was THRILLED when I could order a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts and have them delivered I knew boycotting wasn’t for me!!! Every day new restaurants are added and ready to allow me to partake in their deliciousness being delivered to my door! Use code eats-aaronicacue for $5 off your order.

    Insta-Cart

I tried the free 14-day trial of their delivery service and I’m seriously contemplating signing up for it permanently. They deliver both Aldi and Publix TO MY HOUSE!!! Yes! I love this option because their organic and fresh meat sections are pretty damn good and great competition for my boo Sprouts Farmers Market.

What resources would you add as must have services for new moms?

Keeping Your Marriage Alive After Having A Baby

Keeping your marriage alive after having a baby is a hot topic for any couple who's just added a baby to their family. Here are some tips and tricks!

As I write this I’m rocking our newborn son to sleep while he puts abc down. Keeping your marriage alive after having a baby isn’t always the easiest but this is our second time doing it. We aren’t pros but we are still very happily married.

Once baby comes paying attention to your marriage can be hard. Balancing recovery, baby, other children, work and redefining yourself is a full time job and then adding your marriage? Yeah, it can be overwhelming but I have some tips and tricks to help in keeping your marriage alive after having a baby.

Tips & Tricks To Keeping Your Marriage Alive After Having A Baby

    1. Remember that your spouse still needs you.

This seems really obvious, right? But it isn’t. I’ve heard so many men talk about how after women have given birth they no longer exist to them. I’m going to be captain obvious here again, but, without them, there would be no baby! Remember that and remember them.

    2. Put your spouse first.

This is super hard. You just created this little person who is incredibly cute and smells amazing and all you want to do is snuggle them. The only person you want to pay attention to is the one that you made. As hard as this is, here is your reminder: Put your spouse first. Well, after God or whatever higher power you believe in. Seriously. In a marriage where your spouse is your priority they are more fulfilled and together you can make children a priority. Trust me, parenting is a team sport. You want to be on the same page tackling things in unison.

    3. Have sex. Lots of it.

Ohhhhhhhhhh!!! She said S-E-X!!! Yep, I did. Give up the goodies. Have a great time. Remember what it feels like to be your spouse’s lover. It’s amazing. If you’re a co-sleeping, crunchy mom like myself, this can be hard but it’s not impossible. Get creative but love on each other. It’s healthy.

    4. Over communicate.

Seriously. Talk. A lot. Every month I have some pretty standard questions for my husband. I ask him how I’m doing as his wife, what I could be doing differently, and if there’s anything I could do to make being my husband easier. Normally he has no feedback because I’m just that awesome but I like to keep that door open just in case there is something that he does need to share.

    5. Take care of yourself.

You should really be taking care of yourself for you but let’s be honest, being with someone who take care of themselves is way more fun than being with someone who doesn’t. It sounds shallow but it isn’t. It’s reality. I’m not saying that you need to be dressed up donning a face full of make up and 5-in stiletto’s everyday but I am saying that you should do the things that make you feel good about yourself. I love to do facials and my nails. It makes me feel like I’ve treated myself and I’m worth it. But it also just makes me feel better about myself and when I feel good, I want everyone else around me feeling good too–especially my husband.

Keeping your marriage alive after having a baby is a hot topic for any couple who's just added a baby to their family. Here are some tips and tricks!

Having a baby is wonderful. They are cute and amazing and it’s so cool that they came from your body! And they’re a lot of work. But don’t let that work take away from the very thing that they were created with–the love of your spouse.

What ways do you keep your marriage alive?

10 Reasons You Need Paper Masks In Your Life

Paper masks are bae. Seriously. These things are the Pringles of skin care in how addictive they are and rightfully so for these 10 reasons.

When I️ was a little girl, my mom really drilled into me the importance of having a great skincare routine. My favorite part of the routine was our weekly masks. We used the old school Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask but I’ve since upgraded to these nifty paper masks.

Paper masks are seriously bae. I’ve loved (and seen a difference) with every one I’ve tried. And it’s not just me. Paper masks are totally a thing that you need to be trying and here’s why:

10 Reasons You Need Paper Masks In Your Life

    1. They have so many different kinds.

Have oily skin? There’s one for you. Fighting wrinkles? Here ya go! Adult acne plaguing you? This is for you. It’s like a candy aisle for adults.

    2. You don’t have to commit.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved my Queen Helene mask but I always felt wasteful if I wanted to use something else before it was finished. With paper masks, it’s one and done. It’s that perfect one-might stand you can call again if you want to.

    3. They’re super cute.

Ok, not all of them but I have one that makes me look like a panda!!!

    4. They’re “on trend”–if that’s important to you.

Paper masks are bae. Seriously. These things are the Pringles of skin care in how addictive they are and rightfully so for these 10 reasons.

    5. Ipsy sends them with their bags.

This is how I’ve build such a stash. Ipsy has me hooked hard.

    6. They sell them everywhere.

I was at the beauty supply shop today and at the check out there they were feeding my addiction! They’re at Target, Walmart, Amazon.com, EVERYWHERE!!!

    7. If you follow the directions they give you quality “me” time.

I love how most of the directions basically tell you to just sit for the 15-30 minutes that you’re wearing it. This is hard but as a mom with so many roles, more than my face feels refreshed once the mask comes off.

    8. They really work.

Every single one that I’ve tried has left my skin more improved. My favorite so far is the Gold Mask. I swear I was glowy for weeks after I used this one!

    9. You can scare your kids for fun.

There’s nothing like your toddler screaming “Mommy you look scary!!!” It also teaches them to give you some space ha!

Paper masks are bae. Seriously. These things are the Pringles of skin care in how addictive they are and rightfully so for these 10 reasons.

    10. They’re addictive.

Once you try one you can’t stop. Paper masks are literally the Pringles of skin care!

Have you tried Paper Masks? What’d you think?

Paper masks are bae. Seriously. These things are the Pringles of skin care in how addictive they are and rightfully so for these 10 reasons.

Transitioning From Maternity Leave Back To Working

Maternity leave is officially over for the last time and I'm transitioning back to work! Yes, I'm now a homeschooling, WAHM of THREE! Here's how I do it.

This post is sponsored by Delta Children. All opinions are my own.

Hey boos! So it’s official–maternity leave is over and mama is back in the swing of things (obviously). I’ve been slowly adjusting to life with 3 kids home and boy has that adjustment been a big one. Big and final. Now that we’re in a groove, it’s time for me to pick things back up work wise and get the party back started.

    Goodbye Maternity Leave

This is my final maternity leave. It sounds so sad, right? Well, it isn’t. BC is the final addition. He’s the last one to send our family into a transitional tizzy of sorts. And I’m happy. Happy to have him and happy to get into what our normal life will be–and I say normal loosely.

Maternity leave has been everything. No, I didn’t sit down the entire time and just relax but I did listen to my body. When I needed to relax, I did. When I was in pain, I took something. When I was tired, I slept. I’ve been nursing on demand and bonding with BC while baby wearing when we’re out and about at all the homeschool events.

But now it’s time to get back to work.

    Being a WAHM While Homeschooling

I would be lying if I didn’t say how hard it was to balance the roles of mom, teacher, and entrepreneur but it’s worth it in my opinion–on most days anyways. So what do I do, right? How do I make it happen–especially with a newborn? These are both questions that people ask me and that I ask myself, ha! Here’s what has been working for me:

    Waking Up Before The Children

I’m really blessed that the earliest any of the children wakes up is at 8:15ish. Abc gets up at that time. BC normally sleeps till about 9:30ish and Mini wakes up around then too. While I would love to wake up at 5:30am, it’s really not necessary. I used to be stuck on this 5:30am because they used to wake up earlier. Now They sleep later so I’m able to get up around 6am and have some time to get myself together, have coffee in peace and get started on my work before anyone else stirs.

    Planning Out Our Days

Homeschooling isn’t just sitting at home doing school. We are pretty much always on the go and if I don’t plan properly, then something gets missed with either a deadline or something around the house. Because I’m truly determined to be successful, I can’t let this happen! Having a plan in place–even if it’s not followed–helps me to keep things together.

    Putting The Baby Down

I know, who wants to put the baby down, right? During our quiet hour during the day I’m able to knock out emails, pattern cutting, and more. The kids go to separate spaces and are just silent. The baby is in my office with me and I have him in the Beautyrest® Deluxe 3-in-1 Activity Rocker, Feeder and Sleeper For Newborns so that I can keep an eye on him as he naps. And by me keeping an eye on him I really mean so that he can keep me in view which seems to be calming for him. I love that when he’s not in here I can easily fold it up and move it out of the way so I don’t trip over it!

    Setting Up Boundaries

I love my work. I love it so much that it’s not even work for me. If I could, I would sit and write all day while networking and consulting with others on how to make their businesses flourish. I thrive in this. But work is not the only aspect of my life. Once I leave my office, I leave work–unless there’s something that has to be done right away.

    Apps

Yes, apps. Everything I need to work on the go is within an app. I love that because there are many days we’re out at parks or other places and I actually NEED to work. I don’t have to choose giving my kids memories and hands on learning or working. My apps make it so I have more “and” versus “or” moments and I love that.

My maternity leave is officially over for the last time and while I’m a little sad that it’s my last one, I’m excited to be able to hop back into doing the work that I love!
