3 No-Fail Ways To Reconnect With Your Spouse After Baby

I’m excited to be partnering with TiffinTalk to bring you tips to spice up your marriage!

Let me ask you a question: When was the last time you talked to your spouse since you’ve had your baby? If you have to think about it, it’s been too long. When was the last time you got dressed up in something sexy to make his/her jaw drop–along with yours too? I’m not here to judge but I am here to give some tips on how to reconnect with your spouse after baby.

    But I Love My Spouse

Yep, we all love our spouses (hopefully). But when we have babies, we tend to get caught up in them. We smell their little heads, want to snuggle them all the time, and just wallow in their cute fat rolls and baby giggles. These little people that we’ve created are mystifying and all sorts of amazing. But so is your spouse and simply saying “I love you” is not enough to keep that marriage strong for the long haul. Sure, you love your spouse. When was the last time you showed them that?

You Said No-Fail Ways to Reconnect?

I did. Assuming that you want your marriage to succeed, these tips will work. Ok. So maybe not a guarantee of no-fail BUT these tips have a pretty high success rate in getting you to where you want to be with your spouse.

Marriage can encounter many changes and transitions that can make you feel disconnected. Here are 3 practical tips to reconnect with your spouse right now.

Ok, Give Me The Goods–How Do You Reconnect With Your Spouse After Baby?

These tips are simple, painless, and pleasurable–in that order.

    1. Communicate with each other.

Sure. This seems rather obvious but you know what’s surprising? How sometimes we forget how to talk to each other. Yes, this has happened to me with my husband after we had abc. On our first date post baby, we sat there like “hmmm… what do I say now?” It was so weird to not know what to say to my favorite person in the world!!! After that, I googled things like “How to talk to husband”, “What questions to ask husband”, “How to date my husband” and I was almost embarrassed that I had to consult Google.

My solution now? Conversation cards. TiffinTalk has created a Heart2Heart conversation card set that has 69 (good number, right? ha!!!) cards that are solely dedicated to you and your spouse sitting down sans electronics and getting some good face time together. Do you know how important this is to look your spouse in the eye and chat? Something so simple has the power to be so life changing!

    2. Learn each other’s love language.

And then love them that way. People make it seem like it’s so hard to love others that it makes the other person feel unlovable and that’s not true! The 5 Love Languages makes it super easy to figure out how you feel love. It takes the think work out of your relationship for you. All you have to do is show up and love up on your spouse!

In marriage, if we focus on our spouse’s happiness while they focus on ours, everyone’s needs are being met. It’s a win-win situation. Get the book or take the test online and rock out loving your spouse in the most painless way possible!

    3. Have lots of sex.

    Yeah, I said it.

There was an older couple in some Facebook video that had been circulating some time ago and when they were asked what makes for a happy marriage, sex was one of their top reasons. Some say that sex doesn’t matter and I say that those some are wrong. It does matter. You are being physically one with your spouse in an act that is so intimate.

I’m not one of those people that thinks ALL sex is intimate. But sex with your spouse, the person who you are most naked with mentally, spiritually, emotionally, is an act of intimacy. We need to connect with others. You need to be connected with your spouse. Plus it’s fun and it feels good. Have fun with your marriage!

With Valentine’s Day being around the corner, surprise your spouse with applying these 3 tips. Grab your TiffinTalk 69 (giggle) cards here, learn about the love languages here, and get some sexy lingerie to show them it’s real!!!

So, who’s excited for Valentine’s Day and using these tools to reconnect with your spouse after baby?

5 Everyday Uses For Apple Cider Vinegar

I love Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). I jokingly say that ACV, breast milk and essential oils can pretty much heal anything. I joke but there’s a little bit of truth to statement. There’s MANY uses for ACV but not all can be used daily so here are 5 everyday uses for Apple Cider Vinegar.

5 Everyday Uses For Apple Cider Vinegar

    1. Cold Remedy

It’s cold and flu season which EVERYONE hates. In fact, this flu season is a rather nasty one. ACV has natural immune boosting attributes. It also rids your body of excess mucous which harbors disease and bacteria in your body.

How To Use: At the onset of symptoms, mix 1:1 ratio of ACV to honey with hot water and drink 3 times per day.

    2. Stops Hair Breakage and Shedding

Between the cold and dry air that comes with winter and my postpartum hormones, I can certainly attest to the effectiveness of ACV in stopping your hair from breaking and shedding. How? The ACV restores the natural pH of your hair follicle while removing build up of hair products. It’s also a natural conditioner and hair detangler. I didn’t quite believe the detangling part until I used it on my hair–which has grown an insane amount lately.

How To Use: Mix 1:1 ratio of ACV and distilled water in a spray bottle. After shampooing hair, saturate your hair from root to tip. Let it sit for a couple minutes before rinsing.

    3. Skin Care

There are 2 ways that I’ve used ACV on my skin: as a toner and to mix in with bentonite clay for a facial. As a toner, it brightens and detoxes your skin. As a mask, it REALLY pulls the impurities from your skin. I use the mask on my face, underarms and groin area to keep my lymphatic system detoxing because of my Hidradenitis Supportiva.

How To Use: As a toner, mix in a 1:3 ACV to water ration. Keep refrigerated. To use it with the clay mask, mix it until there’s a creamy texture and then apply to the affected areas.

    4. Enhances Weight Loss

Yep. You read that right. ACV can help you lose weight. How? I wish I could say it breaks down fat cells but that’s not how it works. In fact, I’m not sure exactly how it works but you can read more about it here.

How To Use: Take 2 tablespoons daily in water.

    5. Acts As A House Cleaner

Well, it doesn’t clean the house for you but you can make your own cleaner with it.

How To Use: Mix 1:1 ACV to water with 2 drops of lemon essential oil, 2 drops eucalyptus essential oil, 2 drops lavender essential oil.

So what are you going do with your Apple Cider Vinegar first?

Why I Hate Going To The Gym

I used to love working out and going to the gym. Then I had two babies, my weight increased, and now? Well now I hate going to the gym. Here's why.

There was once a time that I loved going to the gym. I felt strong and prepared and even comfortable enough to joke around with other members that I had seen on various occasions. That time is not now. Now, I hate going to the gym. It’s not because I don’t feel like working out–in fact, it’s the quite opposite. I enjoy the workout but my size and weight have made me so incredibly self-conscious, I have to give myself a pep talk to get out my house.

Why I Hate Going To The Gym

It’s New Year Resolution season and the gym is more populated now than ever. I want you to understand that everything that comes AFTER this sentence, I understand is all in my head and probably NOT reality. But with more people in the gym, that’s more people judging me and how big I’ve gotten. Yes, yes, I know. They are probably focused on their workouts and don’t even notice me–unless I fall again. Yes, again.

    via GIPHY

    I’m SUPER Awkward

Outside of pregnancy, THIS is the biggest I’ve ever been. With my new and not so improved size comes a level of awkwardness that makes me unsure of just about everything.

Did I put my foot on the elliptical pedal right?
    Are my shoelaces too tight?
Does everyone know that I’ve been out the gym for like, ever?

Oh, and then I fell my first day back in the gym so now I relive that moment every.single.time.

    via GIPHY

    I’m Really Uncomfortable

I’m just not very comfortable in my skin right now. My workout clothes don’t fit the way that I want them too. My shirts ride up in the back, my pants fall down, I feel like a sausage in casing. It’s just super uncomfortable. And then I sweat like a lot. Not just your average amount of sweat, but like sweat pouring out of ever single pore that I have. Yeah. Not comfortable to be big and sweaty.

    via GIPHY

I used to love working out and going to the gym. Then I had two babies, my weight increased, and now? Well now I hate going to the gym. Here's why.

    I Jiggle A Lot

Not in like the cute Destiny’s Child kind of jiggle but like in the, “Oh My Gosh Becky Look At Her Butt” kind of jiggle. It’s scary man. I feel like the marshmallow man from Ghost Busters when I’m walking around.

But here’s the good thing: I show up.

Every week I show up feeling awkward, uncomfortable, sweaty and jiggly.

    via GIPHY

The gym that I go to has great child care and they love loving on each of the kids individually. I don’t worry about them as I take the 2 hours I get to myself to blast my music full of curse words into my ears as I work to make myself better and healthier so I can keep up with them.

I’m shocked and disappointed that my body has gotten to this point. I’m incredibly insecure. But I’m a work in progress. I’m committed to making better choices for my health because that’s the person I want to be. But man, this is hard place to be in–especially since I hate going to the gym!

Have you ever hated going to the gym? How’d you get over it?

Keeping Your Healthy New Year Resolutions

I partnered with Princess House to bring you tips & tricks to keeping your healthy New Year resolutions. I was compensated but all opinions are my own.

I’m pretty sure that weight-loss is always one of the top New Year Resolutions that everyone makes. We all want to be better physically but it’s really important to remember that health doesn’t always equate with weight loss. Do I want to lose weight? Sure. But more importantly, I want to be healthy. Keeping your healthy New Year Resolutions isn’t easy but it’s totally possible.

How To Keep Your Healthy New Year Resolutions

Before you keep your healthy goals, you need to set specific ones. Healthy is such a relative term that it can make things confusing and hard to hold yourself accountable to. In order for me to keep my milk supply up, it’s healthy for me to take in more fats and calories. But that may not be healthy for another. So set goals that make sense for you.

    Portions Matter

I was reading an article about how people in France are so skinny even though they eat all the cheese and pastries and such. But it’s because they eat smaller portions! This can be hard to track because who feels like measuring everything out at all times. But look at these plates that do the work for you! The Perfect Portion Dinner Plates have embossed areas for you fill your plate with 25% protein, 25% healthy carbohydrates and 50% veggies for a well-balanced meal.

We all make healthy New Year Resolutions but how many do we keep them? Here are some tips and tricks to help you do just that.

    Eat

This is something that’s especially hard for me. I still have the mindset of a college student and eat when it’s convenient. Now that my metabolism is different courtesy of kids and age, I need to make sure that I’m eating on more of a schedule and getting my calories in.

We all make healthy New Year Resolutions but how many do we keep them? Here are some tips and tricks to help you do just that.

    Incorporate Super Foods

Did you know that fat is good for you? People hear fat and literally go crazy over it. Our society is inundated with low-fat this, and no fat that. That’s not necessarily what’s healthy for you but you know what is? Avocados are! These babies are full of nutrients that will keep you more full longer and is the perfect addition to salads, rice dishes and more. But you know what isn’t easy? Preparing an avocado. Which is why I love this 5-in-1 Avocado Tool that helps me to eat my avocado easily.

We all make healthy New Year Resolutions but how many do we keep them? Here are some tips and tricks to help you do just that.

    Plan Properly

Planning is everything. Planning your meals. Planning your workouts. It matters and it makes keeping your goals easier. With proper planning, you can see what’s working versus not working.

    Eat Clean

This became trendy speak last year but it really makes sense. The less processed foods your body intakes, the easier it is for your body to break it down. But keeping those fruits and veggies fresh can be difficult. I hate having to toss the delicious foods that I just didn’t have time to eat. But Fresh + Healthy™ Produce Keeper Set makes it so that you save your money AND your produce.

We all make healthy New Year Resolutions but how many do we keep them? Here are some tips and tricks to help you do just that.

    Get Active With Intention

Being active is obvious. But making sure that you’re active with intention is the important thing. There are tools like the FitBit, Jawbone Up Band, Nike FuelBand, Apple Watch and more to help. The amount of apps to give you workouts to do from 30 seconds to hours are out there and accessible as well. There’s literally no excuse!

So what are your healthy New Year Resolutions? How do you plan on keeping them?

How To Set Up A Morning Routine For Homeschool Moms

Routines are a pillar for success in life period. Learning how to set up a morning routine for homeschool mom is essential for her sanity. Read on to see how it's done.

Last year was my first year homeschooling the kids and can I tell you how rough it was? I’m pretty sure every third day I was ready to quit and enroll them in whatever school would take them. My friend Ashley was always encouraging when I would send her tear-filled messages filled with frustration and self-doubt. It wasn’t until I finally realized that I NEEDED a morning routine for homeschool moms that I was able to finally get my life together.

    Why A Morning Routine?

In complete truth, I slept on the importance of having a morning routine. I wanted to have a schedule but that doesn’t really work for my family. With 3 kids going through growth spurts and phases at all different times, a schedule set my Type A personality up for loads of disappointment. But routines? Yes. My family THRIVES off of a good routine namely because I do. Routines are more flexible since they don’t necessarily have to start at a particular time but there is a way that you go about doing things.

Routines are better than schedules because they offer more flexibility and more success. Click To Tweet

How To Develop A Morning Routine For Homeschool Moms

The most efficient and effective way to do this is to begin with the end in mind. At the end of your morning routine, what do you want to be accomplished? One of my struggles last year was in feeling like I was constantly on the defense with our daily plan and day. I knew that at the end of my morning routine, I wanted to feel like I was together and ready for the day with the children to begin. In order for me to feel this way, I needed to get done the things I needed to for my business, my clients, and myself. I also require a certain amount of alone time in order to really feel like I’m together.

So ask yourself what’s missing from your day when it begins with your children and what you need to fill that gap. Then you design your morning routine to fill that gap.

Routines are a pillar for success in life period. Learning how to set up a morning routine for homeschool mom is essential for her sanity. Read on to see how it's done.

    My Morning Routine

I will also say that this is the goal of my morning routine–sometimes it doesn’t happen. When it doesn’t happen, I go back to the negative feelings which confirms that my morning routine is in fact something that I need.

    • Wake up before the kids
    • Make a cup of coffee or tea
    • Pray
    • Meditate for 10 minutes
    • Have a 15 minute pickup
    • Review the plan for the day
    • Have a brain dump session
    • Get done whatever work that needs to be done
    • Do some form of exercise
Morning routines are bae and I want to share this with the world. Click To Tweet

I don’t have a particular order for these things to be done but once all of them are done, I feel ready to conquer the day!

Do you have a morning routine? What components would you suggest in a morning routine for homeschool moms?

    Happy 2018: Shoot Your Shot

All those who were ready for 2017 to end, raise your hands! grabs a couple peoples hands to grab because I was way over 2017 Guys, 2017 was a clusterf— and I’m so happy that I made it to 2018! Did you choose a focus word? I didn’t. I chose a phrase: Shoot Your Shot.

I know, that almost seems like it’s too broad but whatever. I spent 2017 watching people achieve the greatness that I wanted for myself because I didn’t make an ask, follow through, etc. But that’s not going to be me this year. This year I’m going for it all in all areas of my life.

    Bye, Bye 2017!!!

Ok. So 2017 wasn’t ALL bad but it was some bad. Change dominated our lives around the TCM household. At the end of 2016, we made the decision to homeschool the girls when we moved. We moved back to civilization BUT the school system in our area was no bueno so instead of worrying about the quality of education they would be getting, we decided I would just do it.

We also found out that we were expecting BC! I love the idea of pregnancy but the reality is that pregnancy doesn’t fit me so well. I spent the better part of 2017 tired, in pain, cranky and puking. Yeah, not good at all. I ended 2016 ready to make 2017 my year and that didn’t happen AT ALL.

    Hello 2018!!!

Now I’m not expecting 2018 to be perfect. That would be silly. But our family is pretty much done making changes. We’re done having children so our family dynamic is finished. This year we’re focusing on buying a house (finally) and really just fine tuning some things, i.e. behavior, schedules, and really getting into a rhythm.

    Shoot Your Shot

This is almost like a version of Shonda Rhimes “Year of Yes” except I’m being more proactive. In sales, there’s a concept that’s taught to not out sell yourself. What does this mean? Meaning don’t assume what the customer needs and that you can’t provide it. I spent 2017 telling myself I didn’t know enough, I didn’t take good enough photos, my content wasn’t good enough, my videos weren’t good enough but then I would see others just out here being great.

2018 is my year to be great. That’s what “shoot your shot” means. I’m just going to be as great as I possibly can giving my best and knowing that it’s good enough.

Are you ready to take 2018 by storm? What’s your word or theme for the year?

5 Natural Hair Care Tips For Kids

I’ve partnered with Cookie Cutter of Alpharetta to share information about their amazing salon that has it’s grand opening on December 16, 2017. If you’re in the Atlanta-area join us!
There’s something about the winter that makes your hair so dry and brittle if you don’t take care of it. Taking care of my own is hard enough but the girls’ hair in addition to my own? Yeah, mama needed some help in maintaining my girls’ natural hair and I got it from the ladies at Cookie Cutter of Alpharetta.
Cookie Cutter Kids Salon has it's grand opening on Dec. 16th but before they opened, they shared 5 natural hair care tips for kids with me.

Natural Hair Care Tips For Kids

I’ve been natural since 2001 and have learned quite a bit about care for my own locks but I’m still learning about my kids hair. Mini’s curl pattern is like mine but her porosity is very different while abc’s curl pattern is tighter but her porosity is similar to mine. So yes, this leaves me quite confused as it relates to caring for their hair.
We were invited to Cookie Cutters Salon and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to learn more about caring for their tresses. These are some of the tips that we discussed:

    1. Oil and detangle the hair before washing.

I saw the difference in how easily the washing process went after this. It also made their curls more defined during the conditioning process.
Cookie Cutter Kids Salon has it's grand opening on Dec. 16th but before they opened, they shared 5 natural hair care tips for kids with me.

    2. Use the LOC method on their hair.

I typically do but was never really sure if I should because their hair was so pure but nope, they need to follow the method as well. Not sure what LOC is? It’s leave-in, Oil, and Cream. The purpose is to lock in moisture.

    3. Keep their ends clipped.

Kids get split ends too and need to be handled before it causes more damage to the hair. Also, make sure to give their ends some extra love & attention to their ends.

    4. Don’t use rubber bands on their hair.

It dries it out and makes it brittle.

    5. Deep condition the hair weekly.

Yes, even the young tresses need this sort of care!

    Cookie Cutters of Alpharetta

I was so excited to partner with Cookie Cutters in Alpharetta and speak with stylists who were both so open and knowledgeable about kids natural hair care. Even better is that their grand opening is this Saturday, December 16 for the public.
Cookie Cutters is a salon specifically designed for kids. They pride themselves on being a great place to bring differently-abled children who need extra care and distractions for their hair care. The environment is one that is incredibly inviting for children. There’s a play area and the seats are actually cars that are placed in front of kid-friendly TVs.
But their service is what really stands out. We met with Marquita and Diamond who were so patient with the tender head of Mini and the constant movement of abc. Not only were they patient with them as they styled their hair into beautiful masterpieces, they answered all my questions with smiles and some laughter–I am pretty funny 😉😉😉.

Baby wearing is an awesome tool for new mamas transitioning through the fourth trimester. Find out why in this sponsored posting.

Did you know that both babies and moms experience a fourth trimester? I know, four kinda negates the whole tri–I get it but it’s true. The first three months of a baby’s life is considered the fourth trimester. This is also the hardest time for recovery for moms. As I wrap of my third fourth trimester, I’m sharing the secret to an easy transition–babywearing.

If you follow me on social media (which you totally should be!!!) you’ve already seen the candid shots in my Instagram Stories of both my husband and I wearing BC. We wear him to do all the things–literally. In fact, as I type this right now, I’m wearing BC in the very same Ergobaby™ Omni 360 that I’ve worn him in since he was born. While he’s changed drastically weighing in at a whopping 16.9 pounds and 25 inches–more than double his birth weight–my use of carrier hasn’t.

How Does Baby Wearing Help In The Fourth Trimester?

Our babies go from being held and hugged for 10 months (if you make it full term) in the dark and warmth to the bright, colder world. There are all these really awesome and amazing pieces of baby gear for us to put our babies down in but once we do, what happens? Most of them cry. All of mine did–except abc when I would put her in her rocker. But both Mini and BC love their snuggles and in truth, I love giving them. And that’s what the fourth trimester is. It’s that transition from the constant snuggle of being inside our wombs to now being snuggled outside of it.

Baby wearing helps this so much because you can still hold them and snuggle them while being hands-free. This isn’t so much of a game changer when it’s your first and you don’t have other kids to juggle but it’s also a huge help in the healing process for mom. Walking and being active helps and the weight distribution of baby while wearing them makes it easy on your back to me mobile while snuggling with them.

    Sleep When Your Baby Sleeps–Right

I wish. I have two very active girls that I’m the primary caretaker of. I have taken some naps with BC in the beginning but not recently. Why? Because I literally have all the things to do. Not saying that I don’t have time to snuggle with him but mom-ing multiples means being able to balance loving more than one child at a time. My Ergobaby™ Omni 360 allows me to do just that.

Whether I’m teaching, grocery shopping, doing laundry, cooking, working, or <insert everything else that working moms do> I can do it without sacrificing my sanity because he’s crying to be held. I love having the flexibility to “do all the things” while nurturing one of the most important things.

Tips To Baby Wearing Through The Fourth Trimester

I’ve been blessed that all 3 of mine have liked to be worn or I wouldn’t know how to function but not all baby carriers are made equally. Here’s how to choose the best one:

    • Adjustable from birth: Unless you’re balling you probably don’t want to buy multiple carriers. There are only a couple of soft carriers that are made to be used from newborn. Don’t just use any carrier from the newborn phase because it may not be good for their hip health.
    • Easy to put on: I love the baby wraps but honestly, they don’t work for my lifestyle and they may not work for yours. The faster and easier the carrier is to use, the more use you’ll get out of it–no one has time to fuss with ties!
    • Comfortable for you: Just like not all carriers are comfy for baby, they aren’t all comfy for you! Make sure that the one that you choose feels natural for your body.
    • Easy to adjust for different people: I love that my husband wears our baby. There’s nothing sexier than a hands-on hubby! But chances are you guys don’t have the same measurements so you’ll need something that adjusts easy.

What are some tools you wish you had or loved through your fourth trimester?
