Today is the beginning of a new era... one in whic Today is the beginning of a new era... one in which I wear jeans at home and find my groove in the monochromatic outfit game.
These jeans are soooo comfy—they’re the Leroy Jeans from @diaandco . One time for being able to fit in them again pretty comfortably!
But seriously: today feels different. I’m excited to be back to creating Dope content on my site for you all. Today I’m working on a post that details all the things we took, drank, and did to make a full recovery from COVID-19.

Y’all. I feel like a weight has been lifted. To Y’all. I feel like a weight has been lifted.
Today’s inauguration served me everything I needed. There was talk of unity, growth, and change.
We have our first WOMAN Vice President who reps being Black and South Asian. We have a President who’s ready to lead us to improvement that our nation needs.
And y’all. The ladies present today DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! These monochromatic looks had me excited and inspired. I took a couple minutes to cut and sew my own monochromatic lounge look that was inspired by these ladies.
Since we’re going to still be in the house until outside is fixed, I figure I should make it fashion, no?
How are you feeling after the inauguration?
One of the greatest lessons that I’ve received f One of the greatest lessons that I’ve received from #MartinLutherKingJr is in taking care of our community. He fought so hard for us only for us to be in the shitstorm we’re in now.
But being a servant leader is what I feel my calling is and showing my kids what it means to give back is something that’s important to Denvor and I. While we aren’t out and about doing service projects, we set one up thy we could do here at home.
I placed an order from @instacart from @costco and @krogerco. They delivered snacks and @always_brand pads so that we could create these bags that have something to eat and drink in them. We’ve got peanut butter crackers, chips, water, beef jerky and granola bars in the bags. We’ll be dropping these off under the overpass tomorrow and keeping some in the car so as we’re driving around, we can help those in need then as well.
My favorite part of this was abc being so happy to build these bags which rubbed off on BC—who doesn’t quite fully understand what we’re doing but he was very adamant about his participation.
If we teach our kids love, compassion, empathy and the importance of caring for each other, our futures will be bright.
Scenes from parents being struck with Covid. We w Scenes from parents being struck with Covid.
We were exposed on January 1 and it took until the evening of January 7 for it to take me down. As soon I started to feel ill, I knew what it was. Denvor had already started feeling down a couple days prior but I was hoping it wouldn’t catch me yet here I am, covid positive.
I was super scared about getting it because I’m asthmatic and don’t have a current prescription for an inhaler—I’ll be working to remedy this shortly. What made this time less scary has been my village. As soon as I shared that I was sick, you all were on it with well wishes, dinners, gift cards Uber Eats so I didn’t have to worry about feeding my kids on top of keeping them focused in school and at a safe distance.
On Sunday, we both got an IV drip that took the excruciating pain we were in away and hopefully shorten the length of time we’re down. We’ve had deliveries of activities for the kids, natural remedies and more.
I’m so thankful for you all that words can’t even describe it. It was so worried about having to heal faster so I could be present for my babies and you all have helped me do this. Thank you for not making me feel like a pariah because I got the ‘Rona. Thank you for reminding me that we create a village to lean on. Thank you all for showing up with things I didn’t know I needed because this is my first time being so sick.
“Village is a place where you can find peace, unity, strength, inspiration and most importantly a natural and beautiful life.”— Minahil urfan
Yesterday was a hard day. What started out as an i Yesterday was a hard day. What started out as an incredible day for Georgia ended in confusion and emotional exhaustion for a nation. And then we had to parent through it.
I still haven’t talked to my kids about everything that happened but they knew I was on edge. And in true kid form, they acted out. There were attitudes and refusal to do chores and attend classes. By the end of the day, we were all too thru with each other.
But today is a new day and I was determined to make it one where I was in control of my emotions, actions and mood. I haven’t been online as much and consuming all the news in the very second that it happened. Yesterday @clumpsofmascara reminded me that if it wasn’t good for my mental health, I didn’t need to consume it.
Today I did the things that make me proud of myself instead: I worked out first thing in the morning, made a hot breakfast for the kids so the house smelled warm and inviting. I have been a more mindful and nurturing parent and invited my babes into my space to share. BC and I did a fun activity with the girls and I to practice his letters and I have been working on things that excite me.
As I was working, I looked over and noticed this one was asleep under my fabric—yes, friends. It’s fabric, not a blanket. And the beauty of this moment is something I wanted to share. It’s scary being a parent of Black children in a world that’s been designed to hate them. But this here is something I hold on to. Her innocence and purity is something that should be celebrated like her white counterparts.
So yeah... that’s where I am today.
This morning I woke up to Georgia turning @spelman This morning I woke up to Georgia turning @spelman_college blue and I couldn’t be happier. When my #SpelmanSister @staceyabrams said that she was dedicated to making sure she flipped this stage within 10 years, she meant it.
“You can tell a Spelman Woman, but you can’t tell her much...”
Shout out to all the people working behind the scenes to make sure that our voices were heard. My very own classmate @biancajkeaton has had many sleepless nights making magic happen in Gwinnett.
It only seems appropriate that I wear my new favorite hoodie from my Morehouse brother @theeclarkjones to celebrate the day. Now let’s finish counting these votes so we can finally declare Georgia a Blue state!
