    3 Safe DIY Drain-Cleaning Solutions

Want to keep your drains clean and clear without the chemicals? Check out these 3 easy DIY natural drain-cleaning solutions.

Cleaning drains doesn’t require a lot of effort, though it does require maintenance. It’s important to have regular upkeep to lower the frequency of common drain problems such as clogs, drain fly infestations, sink odors, etc. Many homeowners like using drain-cleaning solutions as part of their maintenance regimen.

Some people use chemical-based solutions which can be dangerous–especially around pets and kids. A number of commercial drain cleaners have high concentration of chemicals and acids; which don’t bode well for your health and plumbing system. There are alternate cleaning solutions that you can totally create on your own and they’re safe to use.

Please keep in mind that these mixtures are for general drain maintenance and aren’t effective in dealing with massive clogs. You should use plumbing tools such as cable augers and plungers for unclogging drains.

    3 Natural Drain-Cleaning Solutions

    1.Baking Soda And Vinegar

Want to keep your drains clean and clear without the chemicals? Check out these 3 easy DIY natural drain-cleaning solutions.Ingredients

    *2 Cups of Baking Soda

    *1 Cup of White Vinegar

    *4 Cups of Boiling Water

    How to apply

    1. Pour a cup of baking soda directly down the drain hole.
    1. The next step is to pour 2 cups of boiling water. Baking soda and hot water is a good combination for removing grease and oils that have attached to the drain pipeline. Wait for 5 minutes before proceeding with the next step.
    1. After the designated waiting period; it’s time to pour the other cup of baking soda into the drain. This time, mix the baking soda with the cup of vinegar. You need to place a stopper into the drain hole and allow the solution to work. There will be a foaming reaction which is perfectly normal. This also means the mixture is taking effect. If you feel like you still need to apply the solution then do so.

    2. Citrus fruits or extracts

This solution is for those who have garbage disposals installed on their drains. It’s pretty straightforward so you don’t have to worry about mixing concoctions. For garbage disposal maintenance; you can use the solution discussed earlier.

    Ingredients

*Citrus fruit peels (lemon, orange, or grapefruit) or fruit extracts

    Application:

    1. Cut your chosen fruit into small peels. Don’t attempt to place large fruit sizes into the garbage disposal since this will only lead to clogging.
    1. After you have prepared the small fruit slices, throw them to the disposal blades so that it will be grinded. The fruits will release a sweet fragrance that will eliminate the odour and keep the drain smelling fresh.
    1. If you plan on using extracts; then all you have to do is pour the liquid down the drain.

    3. Vinegar, Salt, and Borax Solution

Want to keep your drains clean and clear without the chemicals? Check out these 3 easy DIY natural drain-cleaning solutions.Ingredients

3 Things To Do Before Having Your House Cleaned

Having your house cleaned is an awesome treat for a mom. Whether you can afford for it to be done consistently or once in a while, make sure that you follow these 3 tips to make sure you're cleaning professionals are using their time most efficiently. Read more at www.thecrunchymommy.com.

Having your home professionally cleaned is a luxury that everyone needs to treat themselves to at the very least annually. As a mompreneur, the things that I’ve come to love most are massages, time spent alone free to let my mind wonder, and a clean space. When you have children, it seems like you’re destined to have a messy home for at least 5 years straight until your youngest no longer walks around tossing things on the floor as if that’s where they belong. But I personally don’t like to have my life flash before my eyes every time my feet hit the ground shoe-less with the threat of hitting some figurine or Lego.

But in order for you to really be able to have your house cleaned to the best of the professionals ability, there are a couple things you should do first. And yes, I am suggesting pre-cleaning before the cleaning professionals come!

    1. Make sure your sink and dishwasher are empty. I learned this the hard way the first time I had someone come in and clean. It sucked because they cost $60/hour and they spent like 45 min with the dishes. That day I could only afford the downstairs cleaned since I wasn’t dishing my life savings out on some dishes.
    2. Put your “things” away. I know, if you’re doing this then what are they coming for? Well here’s the thing, only you know where your lotions/perfumes/glasses/etc. go. They don’t. And if you opt not to do this, then you’ll open up the cabinet that houses the baking wares and find sippy cup tops or you’ll never be able to find all your fabric scissors. It’ll end up taking you more time to find your things than it would have for you to just put them away.
    3. Get a good playlist for when they come. Music while they work? Bananas right? But let’s face it, when it comes to housecleaning we all do better once we have some body rocking jams on. My personal favorite is the 90s Rump Shaker Chore List on Google Music but, well, I’m older ha! Some people might think it’s weird to put the music on for someone coming to do work in your home but I say why not? Mix it up and let them get into their groove.

I was lucky enough to have WellKept come and clean my home from top to bottom recently. After battling with my asthma issues courtesy of allergies, the hubs getting strep throat, abc nursing a little cold, and then my poor mini battling through Hand, Foot and Mouth disease, mama needed some help in getting my home back in order. And boy did they do it!

I’d set an appointment for the late afternoon once abc was up from her nap but they called saying they had availability earlier that worked with my schedule as well. Thirty minutes later, three young professionals arrived at my door ready to tackle the craziness that had become my life. I was so apologetic but they reassured me there was nothing to apologize for and that’s why they were here. I really liked how they worked–divide and conquer. Someone handled the kitchen, another did the bathrooms, and the third (who was running things) did the common areas. They were so professional and pleasant that I didn’t have anything to worry about when I ran out to grab abc from day care.

Four hours later (don’t judge me), they were finished and I thought Cinderella had swooped in with her fairy godmother to whip my home into shape. It smelled so fresh and clean. Mini was running around (not touching anything) exclaiming “Mommy our whole house is cleaned!!!” I loved that when I took a deep breath, I didn’t feel like my lungs were filled with chemicals. The vacuum lines in the carpet smiled at me and my reflection in the clean mirror was extra shiny.

Satisfied is an understatement. From booking the appointment to the wrap up, the experience was one that was user friendly, professional, and convenient. I love that they offer both house packages as well as a la carte options. The pricing is awesome and I really love how they do it by room and not time. For just over $105, you can get a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house cleaned. How amazing is that?

Having a sparkling clean and shiny house is essential for creating a comfortable home environment. Nowadays you can choose among a wide range of options when cleaning products are concerned. Commercial cleaners will certainly do a great job, however, if you search for cost effective solution that will still help you to clean your home in an outstanding way, there is nothing better than natural cleaning.

Before applying all homemade cleaning methods that you already know, you need to be acquainted with some excellent time saving tips that will make the cleaning process easier. Around your working schedule and other duties, you probably lack time to devote on cleaning procedures. Do not feel disturbed by this fact – thanks to these wonderful tips you will manage to catch up with the chores and to save up a lot of time. Switching to natural cleaning may be weird at the beginning, however, you will soon understand that this cleaning method.

Here are some wonderful time saving tips:

Stick to a Few Natural Cleaners

You will save time when you choose just a few recipes when providing a cleaning at home. There is no need to use a different cleaner for every chore, this will only make the process of cleaning more complicated and tiring. Pick two or three recipes and apply them on a regular basis. Avoid those ones that require many ingredients – as long as you have baking soda, white vinegar and lemon juice, you will be able to clean the surfaces in a perfect way. The all-purpose cleaning sprays are easily prepared and they are suitable for cleaning of sinks cabinets and counter-tops. Focus on simpler recipes that require less time and investments. I assure you that they do a great job.

    Label Your Cleaners

Labeling the cleaners with the recipe will definitely saves you a lot of time. Instead of wondering what ingredients are used for the cleaner, you can quickly take a look at the lines that you had already written. Apart from this, you won’t wonder what is it inside the container, every time you need to use it. A simple label with the instructions written helps a lot.

Put the Bottles Near Where They Will Be Used

In case you are used to doing last minute cleaning, leaving the bottles in the areas that are cleaned daily will prove to be time efficient. If you want to start with the bathroom or kitchen cleaning immediately, keep a bottle of all-purpose spray close to that areas so that you could start with a deep cleaning whenever you want. Another useful tip is to store some vinegar or baking soda in the bathroom cabinet whenever you need to apply quick and effective cleaning.

These are some useful cleaning tips that will definitely save you up a lot of time and will allow you to manage with the cleaning tasks easily, even when your schedule is tight. Natural cleaning has many benefits and one of the most important is that it will protect you from chemical exposure. Go green and lock all the commercial cleaners in the cabinet. Do not hesitate to prepare your natural cleaning kit and keep in mind the tips mentioned above. Your home will be cleaned and you will be able to manage with the chores quickly and effectively.

    sunday = goal setting day

i’ve been home with abc for a month now. i’ve loved every minute of it. unlike most, i really love this newborn phase. they do so much growing during this time and i really enjoy the snuggling. but even though my (awesome and amazing) husband is insistent that i do too much and need to rest, i really want to return to being an active contributor to our home outside of birthing our new addition and being a human cow.

so i’ve come up with a way that will not only allow me to contribute, but it’ll allow me to tap into my creativity and hopefully continue to push me in the direction that i ultimately want to go in–teaching and being a life coach. i’m working on balance though and not burning myself out. i’m such an extremist that my thought process is normally geared towards all or nothing. if i can’t spend 4 hours cleaning straight, i don’t want to do it period. but being a mom of 2 and a new wife and having responsibilities in all aspects here, it’s crucial that i get a little done a day so that i can be successful.

    here are my daily goals:

monday – meal planning/grocery shopping, bathrooms, iron 5 things

tuesday – vacuum downstairs, mop, handle sock situation, iron 5 things

wednesday – mini’s room, master bed, vacuum upstairs, iron 5 things

thursday – organize living room, iron 5 things

friday – iron 5 things, relax

    saturday – iron

    sunday – relax

i’m also addicted to pinterest, working on a book, returning to blogging, and attempting to return to exercising. so this means that i’ll have to incorporate these things in as weekly goals. i love to create things–this truly feeds my spirit in a way that non-creatives wouldn’t understand so this is a big must in my book. and i love writing and exercising. this is how i’m able to destress and express myself. pregnancy and postpartum thus far has shown me that i’m not as productive without these things so they also must be incorporated. but these are more weekly goals than daily.

    weekly goals:

creative – “est. 2014 cole” sign, 1 t-shirt upcycle project, sweet potato butter

writing – 3 blog entries/1 hour of writing

exercise – 150 minutes of exercise

in my head i want to do more but i have to remember that although i love the infant stage, they’re super needy and normally just want mommy at this phase. so these are my goals. boom.

what goals do you have for the week?
